How to choose a suitable drumstick
There are many types of drumsticks. Some are designed for Jazz,Pop,Funk… For choosing a suitable drumstick 1st must go to purchase a pair of drumstick..haha. Drumsticks come in different sizes to accommodate different playing styles. Thin sticks size-7A,5A are most common for Jazz players to keep up with often speedy timing signature. 2B sized-stick is thicker and heavier, commonly used by harder-hitting players. 5B sized-stick is common among players with average-size hands and the most versatile. Choose the type of drumsticks depend on what type of band will you be playing in primarily.
Lastly, test for straightness. Roll the selected drumsticks on a flat surface. If the drumsticks are wobble or create large gaps between the flat surface, it’s more than likely warped and should be discarded. Warped sticks will create mis-hits and are prone to break very easily. I prefer to buy rubber-grip drumsticks if your hands are easily to sweat. You may also lightly sanding them to create a grip-like texture.
Zildjian,Vater,Tama are top brands for me.Take time in selecting drumsticks which suitable with your hand size. Drumsticks are the soul of drummers.
