Introduction of drum sets.
Snare Drum:
Snare Drum has two drumheads. One of the drumhead is struck with drumstick, another one is stretched by strings to produce soft rattle sound. Snare Drum has 14 to 16 inches in diameter, 9 to 16 inches deep, with a wood or metal shell and the two heads stretched by tensioning screws. Snare Drum became an orchestral instrument after military bands used it until 19th century. When the head and rim are struck simultaneously with one stick, it’s called RIM SHOT.
Hi-hat:
Hi-hat consists two cymbals mounted on a stand. Pressing the foot pedal can bring together the cymbals. We may predetermine the distance of two cymbals by adjusting the upper cymbal’s nut. Cymbals brought together(closed hi-hat), or apart(opened hi-hat). Many sounds we can play with hi-hat when struck by drumstick. Such as, struck on opened hi-hat sound similar to a RIDE CYMBAL. Mostly beginner play hi-hat as a ryhthm.
Cymbal
Cymbal is a common percussion instrument. Drum kits usually included at least one cymbal. Different drummers choosen their cymbals in different sounds. Common cymbals are Crash cymbal, Splash Cymbal and Ride Cymbal. Chinese style Clash Cymbals are usually have traditionally been accompanied by the bass drum playing an identical part.
Bass Drum
Bass Drum can be referred as Kick Drum which is a large drum that produces a low pitch in drum kits. Bass Drums have variable sizes and are used in several musical genres. Three major types of Bass Drum: large orchestral bass drum, smaller kick drum, pitched bass drum. Pitched bass drum usually used in maching bands and drum corps.
The idea for the double bass drum setup came from jazz drummer Louie Bellson when he was still in high school.
Tom-tom
Tom-tom the name came originally from the Anglo-Indian and Sinhala. Tom-tom comes from Asian or Native American cultures. The tom-tom drum was added to the drum kit in the early part of the 20th century. Single-deaded tom-toms usually used in concert but their use has fallen off in popularity since the 1970s. Examples of tom-toms: high tom-tom, high-mid tom-tom, low-mid tom-tom, low tom-tom, high floor tom-tom, low floor tom-tom.
